TRAVIS THOMAS

Travis Thomas's practice covers all aspects of intellectual property, focusing on the development, management, and monetization of patent portfolios for both large, established companies and small start-up ventures. Mr. Thomas also has extensive experience in technology transactions, including inbound and outbound patent, technology, and software licensing worldwide, IP terms and related due diligence in M&A, and patent-litigation settlements.

Mr. Thomas has a technical background in electrical engineering, and his experience in those practice areas covers a wide variety of technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, data centers and cloud-based systems, big data, mobile software applications, gaming, digital media and entertainment, and social media. It also extends to smart homes, autonomous vehicles, telecommunications, mobile devices, wearable technology, sensor networks and the Internet of Things, biotelemetry, semiconductors, and high-performance computing.

Mr. Thomas is a senior partner at Baker Botts and a founding member of the firm's Palo Alto office. He has served on the firm's Executive Committee and as the Local Department Chair for the Palo Alto and San Francisco IP Departments and the Hiring Partner for the Palo Alto office.

Mr. Thomas is admitted to practice in California, Texas, the USPTO, US District Court for the Northern District of Texas, US District Court for the Central and Northern Districts of California. He earned his J.D. at Baylor Law School where he was Editor in Chief, Baylor Law Review, and his B.S.E.E. at The University of Texas.
