RYAN STROM

Ryan Strom is Director Counsel, Intellectual Property at Target.  His primary responsibilities include managing the patent strategy for protecting innovations by the Data Sciences, Global Supply Chain & Logistics, Enterprise Architecture and Product Design & Development teams.  As a member of the Open & Inner Source, Ryan also helps direct Target’s involvement in the open source software community.  Ryan also advises Target’s Shipt and Dermstore subsidiaries in the management of their intellectual property portfolios.

Prior to joining Target in 2016, Ryan worked at several law firms and for 5 years in the Brand Integrity group of Philip Morris International, first in Mexico City and then in New York.

Ryan is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Minnesota School of Law where he teaches Intellectual Property Transactions as part of the Master of Science in Patent Law Program.  He is also a board member of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association and active in the pro bono community, particular LegalCORPS’ Inventor Assistance Program.  Ryan is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota.

But what he really enjoys is coaching his kids’ hockey teams and helping them with their math homework.  And shoveling snow and splitting firewood and long bike rides and drinking beer on the front steps of his house.
