CALIFORNIA CLE & GENERAL CLE INFORMATION

This program is approved for 3 CLE credits in the State of California. If you need CLE from another State, please check that State’s website. You may be able to receive CLE by 1) submitting an individual application for attending an out-of-state course or 2) following rules for attending courses in Approved Jurisdictions. Please check that State’s CLE website for details.

NEW YORK CLE
If you need CLE in NY, please note California is on NY’s List of Approved Jurisdictions (Group B). An attorney claiming credit for an out-of-state course must retain the following documentation for a period of at least four (4) years:

  • Proof of attendance from the course sponsor  (See your Certificate of Attendance and Accreditation by California.)

  • Proof of accreditation by at least one of the NY Approved Jurisdictions (See your Certificate of Attendance and Accreditation by California.)

  • Proof that written course materials were made available

  • Proof that the faculty included at least one attorney in good standing (Please download and retain written course materials and speaker bios).

Below are the specific instructions from the New York State Bar:

For NY attorneys to count the out-of-state credit to meet their NY requirement – attorneys analyze two primary factors:

  1. Whether another state on NY’s approved jurisdiction list approved the out-of-state course for CLE credit (from either the group A and group B jurisdictions), and

  2. Whether the “Requirements” section of the Approved Jurisdiction policy are satisfied and in which case, the attorneys need to retain the required documentation listed in the policy for at least four years in case of an audit.

Attorneys need to determine if they met the requirements listed in the policy. If the course is a nontraditional format course (e.g, Webconference), please review the information regarding attendance verification for nontraditional format courses.

As noted in the policy, “when you [the attorney] file your Attorney Registration form, include these credits when computing the total number (and categories) of CLE credits completed (there is no need to notify the CLE Board or Attorney Registration that you are claiming credits under New York’s Approved Jurisdiction policy).”
